Loud hammering sounds one morning…”Hmm, wonder what’s being built over at the park?” It turned out to be just this guy, tearing up a recently-replaced section of deck railing. Obviously, the carpenter bees had gotten to it first.
Carpenter bee eggs seem to be pileated woodpeckers’ version of oysters. They crack open lumber to find the gooey delicacy inside. Personally, there isn’t enough lemon, mignonette sauce, and maple syrup in the world to make carpenter bees taste good. But that’s just me.
